ABOUT PRAGUE
Prague is a city where old meets new and the culture can be seen everywhere. Whether you come here to party or to experience the cultural side of town you will be pleased. Our stag party groups are usually spending most of their time in the city centre, in the area of Wenceslas Square. Only minutes walk away is the most beautiful square in Prague – Old Town Square (Staromestske namesti). In case you would like to take a break from all the party and enjoy some great churches and Old Town Hall with Astronomical Clock which beats every full hour. Every visitor to Prague should see the square as well as the Charles Bridge, which is another 5 min. walk through the streets of Old Town towards the Vltava River. Above the river there is an impressive monument – Prague Castle, the largest castle area in the world. It has over 1 100 years of history, has always been the seat of the Czech rulers, now the seat of our presidents.
Practical information
Prague is very walk able city, but you might need to use taxi service to take you around for the party. Here we would recommend instead of taking the taxi from the street, which can overcharge (and often does mainly at night unfortunately) to call a reliable taxi service. They speak English as well and will send you taxi in 5 min. In case you want to use the street taxi, you should ask the price in advance. The price within the centre party locations should never be higher than 300 Czk (aprox. 10 EUR) per car.
It is always better to change money in bank, than in the exchange points. You should never change money with someone on the street! In the crowded tourist areas, where the stag groups often appear, there are pickpockets! On the other hand, Prague is quite safe city at night, with almost no violent crime.
The price of food and mainly beer in the restaurants is very reasonable.
Prague is one of Europe’s most visited cities both for its party night life and its cultural heritage. With its 1 000 years of history, Gothic cathedrals, fairytale castle, old stone bridge across meandering river it belongs among the most beautiful cities in the world. Number of elegant coffee houses, good traditional restaurants, well known ancient breweries add to friendly atmosphere. For its hospitality, wide range of great activities and very reasonable prices Prague has become a hot place for stag parties. You can enjoy the most fantastic stag weekend in this amazing city.
The historical centre of Prague consists of 5 towns:
Prague Castle and Castle Town
Prague Castle is the most popular sight among tourists in Prague and it is often visited by stag parties. It is the largest ancient castle in the world; its area is 7.28 hectares. It was founded by prince Borivoj in 883 as a wooden fortress, but was transformed in the course of centuries into impressive little town. Major reconstruction was undertaken by Maria Theresa in 18th century and since then the Castle keeps its classicist face.
The most important monument in the Castle area is St. Vitus Cathedral, one of the most beautiful Gothic cathedrals in Europe. It was founded in 1344 by Charles IV, but was not finished until 1926. It is the burial place of the Czech rulers and depository of Crown Jewellers.
Another interesting monument in Prague Castle is Old Royal Palace, St. George Basilica and Golden Lane
Prague Lesser Town
This lovely little town was founded in 1257 on the slopes below the Prague Castle. As it was not affected by any recent construction it managed to preserve its Baroque look. There is number of peaceful little squares, streets, historical gardens and outdoor restaurants which still wait to be discovered by tourists and stag groups.
The Major Monument of Lesser Town is the Church of St. Nicolas, the most wonderful example of Baroque architecture in Prague.
Prague Old Town
The history of this town goes down to 10th century. It has many medieval little winding streets, number of gothic and Baroque churches, but the main attraction in Old Town is the Old Town Square with its Old Town Hall and the Astronomical clock. The square and its neighbourhood are often filled with tourists. On weekend you also meet stag groups sitting in outdoor restaurants, tasting beer or admiring the beauty around.
Prague Jewish Quarter
Named after the emperor Josef II, whose reforms in 1781 helped to ease living conditions for the Jews. This part of Prague is often visit by people who want to learn about Jewish history and culture. It has high number of precious monuments as Hitler’s stag party did not touch it in the World War II. His intention was to open here an exotic museum of an extinct race. Thanks to this idea Prague has the oldest preserved Jewish cemetery and the oldest working synagogue in Europe.
The best known personalities who lived in Prague Jewish Quarter are the famous writer Franz Kafka (1883 – 1924) and the creator of mystical homunculus Golem Rabi Löw (+1609).
Prague New Town
The carefully planned New Town was founded by Charles IV in 1348. It was mainly inhabited by tradesmen and craftsmen. There is the main square of Prague, Wenceslas Square, which is the commercial but also night entertainment centre. It is the most popular part of Prague among the stag parties. In New Town there are some very pleasant shopping boulevards, many good restaurants and couple of historical breweries making famous Czech beer.
Something about Czech Republic
The Czech Republic is situated in the centre of Europe and sometimes it is called the heart of Europe. It has a population of 10,3 million inhabitants and covers an area of about 80,000 sq. km.
The Czech borders are the oldest ones in the Europe. We border with Germany on the west with a nature border made by the Ore Mountains, the Czech Forest and Sumava range. The border with Poland is made by the Jizerske Mountains, the Giant Mountains the Eagle Mountains and the Jesenik Mountain range. The border with Austria is made by the Dyje River and the border with Slovakia is made by the Morava River and White Karpat hills.
The Czech Republic consists of three lands: Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia. A natural border between Moravia and Bohemia is made by the Bohemian-Moravian Highland. The biggest mountain in the Czech Republic is Snezka (1602m) in the Giant Mountains and the longest river is the Vltava.
There are many spots of natural beauty in the Czech Republic. South Bohemia is particularly rich in ponds. The most beautiful natural places are the Czech Paradise, “rock town” in Prachov rocks, the Decin walls, Czech Switzerland, the Boubin virgin forests, Macocha abyss and so on. We have also some protected areas, some of them are really very nice (for example one of the protected areas is the region near river Dyje) and National parks. Some of these beautiful places can be a location for some of our stag party activity.
History of the Republic
At the beginning of the 20th century Bohemia was a part of Austrian Empire. After World War I in 1918 Czechoslovakia declared its independence. The new republic had three parts: Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia. The popular Tomas Garigue Masaryk became the first president. In October 1938 the Nazis occupied the Sudetenland, with the acquiescence of Britain and France, after the infamous Munich Agreement. In March 1939 Germany occupied Bohemia and Moravia. Slovakia proclaimed independence as a Nazi puppet state. After World War II in 1945 Czechoslovakia was re-established as an independent state. In the 1946 elections, the Communists became the largest party with 36% of the popular vote and formed coalition government. In 1948 the Communist staged coup d’état and Czechoslovakia became a communist country. In the 1960s Czechoslovakia enjoyed a gradual liberalization under the reformist general secretary of the Czechoslovak Communist Party, Alexander Dubcek. But this short period was crushed by a Soviet party invasion in August 1968. In 1969 the reformist Dubcek was replaced by the orthodox Gustav Husak and Czechoslovakia stayed a communist country under the Soviet influence. The communist government resigned in November 1989 after a week of demonstrations known as the Velvet Revolution. The popular Vaclav Havel was elected president of the republic. At the end of 1992 Czechoslovakia split into Czech Republic (Bohemia and Moravia) and Slovak Republic (Slovakia). This peaceful splitting is called the Velvet Divorce. Twelve years later, on 1st. May 2004 Czech Republic became a part of the European Union. On 1st. January 2008 Czech Republic became a part of Schengen agreement and removes internal borders with Schengen area countries. This allows travel to and from these countries without checks, both at land borders and airports. After the freeing of the borders more tourists visited the country and stag party weekends become very popular.
>Czech political system
The head of the Czech Republic is the President (presently Prof. Vaclav Klaus). He is elected for five years.
Parliament and the government have the main power. The government is composed of the prime minister, the vice-premier and the ministers.
The judicial power is divided into a system of courts. There is house of common and the Senate, which are at the highest level and they go down to region and district courts.
Our flag consists of three colours, red, blue and white. The red is at the bottom, the white is at the top and the blue makes a triangle at the left side.
Something of the history of bachelor party
The history of bachelor (stag) party is thought to have originated with a bachelor (stag) dinner that was traditional in ancient Sparta (5th century BC) where soldiers would toast each other on the eve of a friend’s wedding.
A bachelor (stag ) party may involve activities beyond the usual party and social gathering ingredients (often drinking alcohol and gambling), such as going to a strip club, hiring a stripper or escort, and in some traditions more hazing - like tests and pranks at the future groom's expense, which shows the whole thing is also a rite of passage from bachelorhood (associated with an adolescent lifestyle, often in the common past of most participants, e.g. in their student years) to "more responsible" marital life.
The task of organizing a bachelor ( stag ) party is often traditionally assigned to a male sibling of the bachelor ( stag ) or to the best man. Otherwise, any (close and/or reputedly party-minded) male friend will organize it. The planned activities of a bachelor ( stag ) party are traditionally kept secret from the groom.
It has also become common for a similar party to be held for the bride-to-be. This is known as a bachelorette party or Hen party.
A tame version is the so-called Stag and Doe party, in which both the bride and groom attend.
In the United Kingdom it is now common for the party to last for more than one evening, hence the increasing prevalence of the phrase "stag weekend." A spin off has been the growth of the Stag Weekend Industry in the UK with various companies taking the "hassle" out of the weekend.
In the UK, stag weekend trips are becoming mini-holidays with the groups taking part in various day time activities as well as the expected night out on the town. Popular UK destinations include Blackpool, Brighton, Bournemouth, Sunderland, Liverpool and Edinburgh. With the rise of budget airlines, there is now a growing trend for stags to go abroad, with Krakow, Dublin and Riga topping the list, followed by Prague, Vilnius, Amsterdam, Bratislava and Antwerp.
Groups of friends attending weekends away in the UK and even into Europe with their best friend leave home on a Friday and embrace 2 days of fun. The groom who normally is called "the Stag" will have a selection of tasks to complete on the stag weekend. Group activities include paintball, kart racing, clay pigeon shooting, quad biking, bungee jumping, AK-47 shooting and white water rafting.
In the United States, Las Vegas, South Beach (Miami), Chicago, and New Orleans are popular bachelor ( stag ) party destinations. They are also popular wedding locations. Increasingly, "destination bachelor (stag) parties" are replacing standard nights out, with Americans travelling to Montreal or Mexico. Very nice place to go to enjoy bachelor ( stag ) party is definitely Playa Del Carmen.
Bachelor (stag) parties in the US often entail the mass consumption of alcohol, the hiring of a stripper or prostitute, and general rowdiness toward which the bride might not have a positive reaction (especially since women are not supposed to be among the invitees). Increasingly, bachelor (stag ) parties have come to symbolize the last time when the groom is truly "free" and without the influence of his new wife.
Many Buck's Nights in Australia feature a stripper and a poker tournament. The groom's mates often, after heavy drinking, subject the groom to various humiliations, sometimes in public. These often include leaving him tied naked to a pole or placing him on an airplane to a remote location. It has also been quite common to start the humiliation at the beginning of the night by dressing the buck up as a female or making him wear a "mankini".
Canadian cities such as Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver are popular bachelor (stag) party destinations due to their large number of strip clubs with "dance contact" (lap-dancing). Montreal in particular is popular for this purpose with both Canadians and Americans alike. The female equivalent of a stag party in Canada is often known as a "stagette" or "doe."
In France, the bachelor party is called "enterrement de vie de garçon" (for the groom-to-be), which literally means "(the) burial of the life as a boy" or "burial/funeral of the life as a bachelor." For women, "enterrement de vie de jeune fille" (for the bride-to-be) translated as "burial/funeral of the life as a young girl." As in English-speaking countries, such parties often feature heavy drinking and various (although gentle) humiliations, and sometimes the presence of a stripper.
The tradition is catching on in India. Pondicherry is the place to be.
In Italy the bachelor (stag) party is called "addio al celibato" (for the groom-to-be) which literally means farewell to bachelorhood. For the bride-to-be it is called "addio al nubilato".
In Russia the event is called ‘??????????’ (malchishnik) which roughly translates as boys’ party. The event for a bride-to-be is called ‘????????’ (devichnik) or girls’ party.
